BORISOV DISTRICT, 17 February (BelTA) – The snap inspection of the Armed Forces authorized by the Belarus president continues. Soldiers of the 103rd Vitebsk Airborne Brigade and of the 120th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade are busy firing various kinds of standalone weapons and weapons mounted on vehicles in the 227th combined-arms military training area, BelTA has learned.
“Today we have firearm training qualifications. Military personnel from the 120th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade are working alongside military personnel from the 103rd Vitebsk Airborne Brigade. We practice firing assault rifles and grenade launchers. The soldiers also use combat vehicles to perform qualification shoots. All of them are intent on demonstrating excellent results. The cold weather is having an effect. It is difficult for the military personnel due to bad weather but everyone is doing fine and meets qualifications despite the weather conditions. The military personnel are supplied with everything they need to operate in winter,” stressed Ilya Grishchenko, deputy commander for ideological training of a company of the 120th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade.
Ivan Pasovets, an assistant grenadier from the 120th brigade, said that in addition to shooting today the military personnel also have to pass qualifications concerning weapon loading, disassembly, and assembly. “There is nothing complicated about that for us. While in the army we routinely practice these actions and pass qualifications. We go out into the field rather often. It is always interesting,” the soldier noted.
Fyodor Vanyuk, commander of a motorized rifle company from the 120th mechanized brigade, pointed out that targets for armored fighting vehicles are located 1-1.2km away. Shooting has to be done in a parked position and while on the move. Apart from that, the soldiers had to do qualification shooting at night. “As a peculiarity of shooting at night the targets are lit by lamps. You cannot see the field itself. You only have the lights to look at. The armored fighting vehicles also have heat imagers,” the officer noted.
The large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces authorized by the head of state began on 16 January. The commander-in-chief personally monitors its progress. A new system has been worked out to enable the president to place military units on combat alert without involving the Defense Ministry and the General Staff. The primary goal of this inspection is to see an objective picture. This is why the events are sudden.
