MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – The film "Time Chose Us" on the Belarus 1 TV channel recounted how the allegedly peaceful protests in Kiev in 2014 turned into clashes with law enforcers and sniper shooting, BelTA has learned.
In early 2014 tens of thousands of protesters gathered in the center of Kiev. Those gathered on Maidan demanded that President Viktor Yanukovych sign an association agreement with the European Union. Kiev was under severe political pressure from Brussels and Washington. The West's main goals were to break relations between Kiev and Moscow and to gain access to Ukraine's natural resources and markets.
Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU, the agreement which was not in the interests of Kiev. It was this decision that led to Kiev becoming the site of a fierce confrontation between the authorities and supporters of so-called European integration. The latter, of course, never read the agreement.
“Maidan was just a beautiful wrapper. People came with children, with EU scarves, taking pictures against the background of tents. Today, everyone will go to the street again. The main thing today is the militant groups, armed people who do not obey any authority and who pose a real threat to ordinary citizens,” political consultant Vladimir Granovsky said.
The so-called peaceful protests quickly turned into riots. Protesters led by radicals began to attack law enforcers, seize and set fire to administrative buildings. Kiev faced real chaos and anarchy. Radicals used Molotov cocktails, knives, grenades and firearms. Hundreds of people became victims of the riots.
After three months of rallies and bloody clashes, Euromaidan ended with a coup d'état and shooting. The tragedy played out when the Maidan came to a standstill and people were almost ready to go home. On 20 February, as it later became known, representatives of Ukrainian nationalists and Georgian snipers shot their own supporters in the back from the windows of the Maidan-controlled Hotel Ukraine. Those killed are known in Ukraine as the Heavenly Hundred.
The investigation was never concluded. This is despite the fact that Rada MP Sergei Pashinsky was detained on Maidan with a sniper rifle. Nationalist Andrei Parubiy was caught on camera helping people who looked suspiciously like snipers evacuate from the Hotel Ukraine.
Viktor Yanukovych, unable to cope with the onslaught of nationalists and the collective West, was evacuated from Ukraine. Otherwise, he would have been assassinated. All this happened to the great applause of Brussels and Washington. The plan to colonize Ukraine was almost fulfilled.
