Snap combat readiness check begins at 120th air defense missile brigade

BREST OBLAST, 11 March (BelTA) – The 120th air defense missile brigade from Baranovichi is undergoing a snap combat readiness inspection, BelTA has learned.

The brigade received the alert signal on 10 March. One of its units was brought to the highest level of combat readiness. “The personnel quickly moved to the designated area, assumed combat duty, and began carrying out their tasks. The unit has one mission: to protect Belarus’ airspace,” emphasized Andrei Kalyuta, Deputy Commander for Ideological Work and Head of the Ideological Department of the 120th air defense missile brigade.
The main point of the inspection is that service members are not told in advance what tasks they will be required to perform or how many of them. “Our brigade is constantly on combat duty and remains ready to carry out assigned missions anywhere and under any conditions. This is our daily routine,” Andrei Kalyuta stressed.
The brigade is equipped with the Buk surface-to-air missile system. “The self-propelled firing unit is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise missiles, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles. We are on combat duty around the clock. The equipment is reliable and always performs its tasks,” said the commander of the Buk firing crew.
At the moment the alert was issued, the brigade’s unit was training at one of the ranges in Brest Oblast. “The signal sounded, and everyone gathered quickly, boarded the vehicles, and moved to the mission area,” a serviceman of the 120th Brigade shared. “Our task is to prepare the equipment to protect the aerial borders of our country. Internally, we are always ready. There is nothing extraordinary about the inspection: everyone treats it calmly. For us, it is an opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities. In practice, we train every day and hone our skills.”
As BelTA prevoiusly reported, a large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces, as directed by the president of Belarus, began on 16 January. The primary goal of the inspection is to see an objective picture, assess the actual state of the troops, and evaluate the performance of military personnel. This is precisely why it is conducted on a surprise basis. A key feature of the inspection is its organization: the head of state places military units on combat alert, bypassing the Defense Ministry and the General Staff.
