Serdyukov: CSTO training proceeds amid challenging geopolitical environment

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – The joint training of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) forces is being conducted this year in a complex military-political situation, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Andrei Serdyukov told a briefing, BelTA has learned.

“The joint training in 2025 is being conducted in a very complex military-political situation. The crisis of the entire system of international relations has significantly intensified the processes of global restructuring and has provoked an escalation of the geopolitical situation in the CSTO's area of responsibility and in the world in general. I consider it important to note immediately that all ongoing activities and exercises are planned and are not directed against third countries. Their goal is to improve the coordination of command bodies and troops, as well as to maintain readiness and form forces and means for performing their designated tasks in the interests of ensuring collective security,” Andrei Serdyukov said.

He added that, given long-term planning and the prevailing situation, the main emphasis this year is on the Eastern European and Central Asian regions of collective security. One of the priority tasks for 2025 is the practical refinement of issues related to the organization of management and coordination of the CSTO Collective Forces. “For this purpose, prior to the joint exercises, officers of the Joint Staff are scheduled to conduct instructor-methodological sessions with trainees on the procedures for organizing the management and coordination of the command of the Collective Forces groupings, taking into account the experience of the Russian armed forces in conducting the special military operation. At the same time, special attention will be paid to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, which have become one of the most effective means in warfare, as well as the specifics of creating a system to counter enemy drones,” the chief of the CSTO Joint Staff said.

Furthermore, as part of military-technical cooperation in 2025, agreements have been reached to demonstrate the capabilities of modern models of weapons, military, and special equipment, developed by leading enterprises of the CSTO member states' defense-industrial complexes, during joint exercises.

“The Joint Staff, together with the CSTO Secretariat and host nations, has coordinated all issues related to inviting representatives from non-member states and international organizations as observers,” Andrei Serdyukov said.

He also stated that the command bodies and formations of the collective security forces and assets are ready to conduct the joint exercises. “I emphasize that the events carried out by the Organization form the foundation for strengthening peace, international and regional security and stability, and the collective protection of the independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of our states. Member states prioritize achieving these goals through political means,” the chief of the CSTO Joint Staff said.
