SCO praises Belarus’ role in ensuring global food security

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) - Belarus plays a key role in ensuring food security, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Janesh Kane said during an opening ceremony of the Belarusian agro-industrial week and the international exhibition Belagro 2025 on 3 June, BelTA has learned.

Janesh Kane described Belagro as a platform to discuss food security issues and exchange experience among countries.
"The world faces various challenges. The population is growing, and it is important to ensure food security for all," he noted. "This is why this forum is so timely. It provides an opportunity to exchange views, experience, and join efforts. Belarus plays an important role in food security as a producer of food, machinery and fertilizers."
The deputy secretary-general emphasized that SCO member states are among the world’s largest producers and consumers of agricultural products. During the Belarusian agro-industrial week, special attention will be given to presenting the agricultural potential of SCO countries, which are represented under the emblem AgroSCO.

Janesh Kane noted that SCO countries produce sufficient agricultural products. However, he stressed the need to start preparing for future food security challenges, as climate change is making the food security issue increasingly relevant.

The international specialized exhibition Belagro 2025 is taking place at the Minsk International Exhibition Center and will run until 7 June. As part of the Belarusian agro-industrial week, several other specialized exhibitions are being held: BelFerma, BelProdukt, Prodmash. Kholod. Upack, and Food Industry.
The Belagro exhibition, which has been held since 1990, is the largest platform to showcase modern agricultural technologies, new farming machinery and advancements in crop production, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food-processing industry.
This year, the exhibition hosts more than 540 companies from 14 countries, including Belarus, Russia, Germany, Italy, China, Iran, Türkiye, Vietnam, Palestine, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Belagro also features exhibition blocks of Belarusian enterprises affiliated with the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the Industry Ministry, the National Academy of Sciences, the Belgospishcheprom, the Belcoopsoyuz cooperative society.
Russian regions presented their collective expositions. Large expositions from leading Belarusian manufacturers, such as MTZ, MAZ, Gomselmash, Amkodor, Belagroservice, Bobruiskagromash, and MMZ, are also featured.
