Russian Consulate General presents photo exhibition in Brest

BREST, 8 February (BelTA) - The photo exhibition Diplomacy as Art was presented at the Russian Consulate General in Brest on 8 February, BelTA has learned.

The exhibition marks Diplomatic Worker's Day celebrated on 10 February. The project unites love for art and diplomacy. It is a kind of report on the work of the Consulate General for the past five years. The exhibition features 24 reproductions of famous paintings by Russian artists and the same number of photographs taken by Russian diplomats during significant events. The feature of the exhibition is that the main moments of the diplomatic mission's work are shown through the prism of masterpieces.

For example, a photo from the opening of the international military and historical camp Borodino with participation of Brest cadets is accompanied by a reproduction of Vladimir Tatlin's painting Archers, the Motalskіya Pysmakі festival by Ilya Repin's Belorus. Under the picture showing the fingerprinting system for passport applications at the Consulate General, there is Kazimir Malevich's Black Square. An analogy suggests itself between the participants in the Victory Roads to Berlin motorcycle rally, who visited Brest in May 2017, and a character from Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin's painting Bathing the Red Horse.

Shishkin, Vrubel, Kandinsky, Kustodiev, Chagall, Zhukovsky is a selection of paintings and photographs, combined with official events or behind the scenes diplomatic life, shows the ability of diplomats to see the hidden in the obvious, the beautiful in the ordinary.

The event was attended by representatives of diplomatic departments, local authorities, large exporting companies. Russian Consul General in Brest Igor Konyakin made a short excursus into the history of Russian diplomacy, which officially spans almost five centuries. “Diplomacy is inextricably linked with people, friendly relations between peoples. It is through art and culture that we can get to know and feel each other better. With this exhibition we wanted to show our sincere attitude to our Belarusian friends. The works submitted for consideration reveal everything that unites our peoples: spiritual kinship, unbreakable closeness of destinies, sincere friendship and mutual support,” the diplomat said.

“The presence of diplomatic institutions raises the status of the city itself. Therefore, we contribute in every way to the opening of new honorary consulates and try to make the work of diplomats as comfortable as possible. With their help the cultural life of our city will be respectively diversified,” said Brest Mayor Aleksandr Rogachuk.

There are plans to place the exhibition in the visitors' reception hall and enlarge it with new compositions.
