Russian army’s ability to adapt to modern combat praised. Expert mentions cope cages on tanks

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Russia is a leader in strategic adaptation. The situation on the battlefield where the Russian army regularly invents something new confirms it. Head of Russia’s center for studying military and political conflicts Andrei Klintsevich expressed the point of view in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point.
“The adversary acknowledged long ago that Russia is a leader in strategic adaptation. Despite all their sanctions we change sufficiently quickly and strive to move forward. In a very short time we accomplish what would take them a long time due to their sluggishness and serious red tape,” said Andrei Klintsevich.

The expert pointed out that Russia invents new things on the front lines quite quickly. As an example he cited the so-called “cope cage”: makeshift structures that are installed on battle tanks and armored vehicles to protect them from drones. Although no one took them seriously at first, the “cope cages” proved their effectiveness in the combat zone. Moreover, armies of other countries are beginning to adopt this practice.

“Americans have completed a new stage of modernization of their Abrams tanks. They are painted with a different paint that is less visible to thermal imaging cameras, and small ‘cope cages’ are installed on top and on the sides. They have allocated two years for these innovations. In our country repair crews in military units could probably do the same within a month,” believes Andrei Klintsevich.

He also pointed out that a significant portion of German Leopard tanks supplied to Kiev had been burned by FPV drones because they lacked adequate protection. “Now they come fitted with some kind of additional explosive reactive armor blocks,” the expert added.
