MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, President of the IPU Eurasia Group, member of the CSTO PA Standing Committee on Political Affairs and International Cooperation, hosted a coordination meeting of the heads of parliamentary delegations of the CSTO member states in the IPU on the sidelines of the 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.
The meeting highlighted the growing importance of the CSTO in ensuring regional security. The meeting participants emphasized that its parliamentary dimension is of particular importance in the work of the organization. At the same time, the CSTO, like any international structure, should adapt to the dynamics of the international situation.
In his speech, Sergei Rachkov drew the attention of the meeting participants to the initiative of the Belarusian president to draft a new CSTO development strategy. The MP recalled the high-level international conference “Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World”, which was held in Minsk last October as part of Belarus’ presidency in the CSTO. Belarus was pleased to launch a process to discuss the prospective construction of the Eurasian security architecture and looks forward to further substantive discussions during the second Minsk International Conference on 31 October- 1 November 2024.
“Only together can we ensure a timely and effective response to the emerging challenges and threats,” the Belarusian MP said.
The participants of the coordination meeting also discussed the problematic topics of the 149th IPU Assembly, and exchanged views on other topical issues of mutual interest.
