ST. PETERSBURG, 29 January (BelTA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the foundation of the alliance between Belarus and Russia as he addressed a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in St. Petersburg, BelTA has learned.
The Russian leader recalled that the other day marked the 80th anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad. The 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders will be celebrated in July. May 2025 will mark another landmark anniversary - the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
"These are the most important memorable dates for our two fraternal peoples, who are closely connected by common history and spiritual values, family and kinship ties. It is on this solid foundation that the genuine alliance and strategic partnership between Russia and Belarus is based on. Within its framework we have been jointly building the Union State for almost 25 years. We have managed to achieve a lot on this path," Vladimir Putin said.
