GRODNO, 18 May (BelTA) – Most popular runners of the presidential race in Poland have no intention of changing the policy. This is why one should not expect drastic changes. Deputy Chairman of the Education, Culture, and Science Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairman of the public association Union of Poles in Belarus Aleksandr Songin shared the opinion with a BelTA reporter.
Aleksandr Songin said: “Belarus is interested in the outcome of the election in Poland because they are our neighbors. What is going on in the Republic of Poland has an effect on us to some degree one way or another. Relations between our countries have been evolving for decades. They rely not only on economy but also on friendly and kinship ties between the nations. But Poland’s political circles stopped being friends with us as neighbors, as economic partners a long time ago.”
The Union of Poles in Belarus chairman added: “Regretfully, I don’t see that the front runners of the election race have an intention to change the policy. This is why I don’t think we should expect some drastic consequences and changes. For now it is important for Belarusians to pay attention to those, who want to cooperate and communicate with us. And there are plenty of those. They may be ordinary people as well as businessmen and Polish politicians. They can be used to knock on the door of the Polish political elite. And our country does that.”
“As for the attitude of the presidential candidates in Poland, I haven’t heard from leaders of the race that they are interested in Poles, who live in Belarus. Their main theme is good life for Poles in Poland,” Aleksandr Songin said. “Today the Union of Poles in Belarus has no contacts with government officials in the Republic of Poland. We’ve tried to get in touch, we’ve sent a message but to no avail. Despite that just like our state we, Belarusian Poles, will always demonstrate our openness and will support all the good endeavors.”
