"On Point"
MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) - The German economy is going through a deep crisis, which is to blame, among other things, for the sanctions imposed against Russia, Ulrich Singer, a German politician, member of the Alternative for Germany party, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
“The German economy is going through a deep crisis. It used to be heavily tied to Russian energy resources. The cheap gas we pumped through Nord Stream was our competitive advantage. If we now return to cooperation with Russia, we will regain that advantage. One of the Nord Stream pipelines is still working, and we could import cheap gas through it. There are other ways to increase the supply of cheap hydrocarbons,” Ulrich Singer said.
According to the German politician, the decision to lift sanctions on Russia and transit to cheap Russian gas will let the German economy resume growth. “Today, the German car industry is going through bad times. China buys fewer German cars and produce its own. The Russian market, as well as the Belarusian one, doesn't count. On top of that, Donald Trump plans to impose tariffs on imports of our cars. Shares of German automakers have plummeted. Companies will soon start laying off employees. Tens of thousands of jobs are at stake,” he said.
According to Ulrich Singer, automaking is the main sector of German industry. “We have always known that if the motor industry performs well, then Germany does well. Today we are in desperate need of stable markets, and they are available in Russia and Belarus, among others,” the German politician said.
