MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – The U.S. operation in Venezuela and the abduction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro constituted a challenge to China, political observer with the media group Rossiya Segodnya Vladimir Kornilov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
According to the expert, the loss of Venezuela and its oil reserves is a far more critical issue for China than for Russia. “This is especially evident given that Maduro was abducted literally hours after meeting with a high-ranking Chinese delegation. This is unquestionably a challenge to Beijing. It is a direct challenge to China,” Vladimir Kornilov asserted.

Addressing criticism that Russia failed to provide support to Venezuela, the political commentator noted that Russia’s strategic priorities lie elsewhere and remain fixed regardless of global developments. He clarified that Russia nevertheless empathizes with the Venezuelan people and is doing what it can on this front, adopting a similar stance toward Iran.

“However, it is clear that during the special military operation we cannot concentrate all our efforts on supporting our allies and friends in far-arc countries,” stated Vladimir Kornilov.
