MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Sooner or later Belarus and the West will resume cooperation, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the media, BelTA has learned.
"There is an interest in this. Especially on the part of business communities that are affected by the policies of their own governments for the sake of some incomprehensible and mythical values. This is why we remain calm about this. I am sure that sooner or later, cooperation will resume. Certainly, we would like it to happen sooner. The sooner this happens, the less harm will be done to all parties involved," the prime minister said.
When asked about the possibility of addressing sanctions issue and the resumption of regular, comprehensive cooperation with the Western countries, Roman Golovchenko did not provide a precise answer. "To a greater extent, it does not depend on us. The president has repeatedly expressed our willingness to resume comprehensive cooperation with the West any time. They do not want it now. If they prefer to overpay and damage their economy, let it be so," the premier stated.
According to him, trade with the European Union and with the West is underway. "We sell the commodities that are not affected by sanctions. Sometimes, we re-export goods through other channels. European business seeks cooperation with us. We have repeatedly received certain proposals to work. When it is feasible and profitable, we support them," Roman Golovchenko stressed.
