MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – Minsk may become the youth capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2027, BelTA learned from CIS First Deputy Secretary General Igor Petrishenko at the 3rd CIS and EAEU Youth Forum.
The youth forum is being held in Minsk as part of Belarus’ presidency over the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). “All delegations have visited the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. We share a common history and memory of the heroic feat that we honor in all CIS countries. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War,” Igor Petrishenko pointed out.

In his words, about 47 higher education institutions from seven countries have united in a network university. It allows them to share best practices and establish contacts among young people, and demonstrates that the education sector mutually shares and complements best practices.
A pressing issue that is currently evolving within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States is the promotion of youth entrepreneurship. “Young people see and are involved in the entrepreneurial, innovative, and economic process. It is necessary for their ideas to find practical applications and implementations,” the CIS first deputy secretary general added.

The CIS Youth Capital is another important project. In 2024 Tashkent was chosen as the capital by the resolution of the CIS Heads of Government Council. “The youth roundtable sessions were very interesting, creative and innovative projects were considered. This is also an important unifying element. This year the project is being implemented in the city of Gabala, Azerbaijan. Next in line in 2026 is the city of Kapan, Armenia. A draft resolution has been prepared to make Minsk the youth capital in 2027. As always, Belarus will be able to organize and demonstrate at the highest level all the aspects that allow youth initiatives to develop and projects to be implemented,” Igor Petrishenko added.

Youth activity is a catalyst for all new ideas. Their practical implementation should also come from young people. “It is very important to develop our mass media space, which primarily conveys truth, sincerity, kindness, and traditional values. This topic is currently in the spotlight and under discussion. There will be new ideas and approaches,” the CIS first deputy secretary general emphasized.
Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets noted that the forum will be a good opportunity to get acquainted and exchange views on matters of interest to every young person: education and science, the digital agenda, the implementation of ideas, innovations, and the startup movement. “We have tried to ensure that in addition to dialogues, double discussion platforms, and meetings you will be able to get acquainted with our country, its history, and culture, and once again see how friendly, peaceful, and open Belarus is,” Andrei Ivanets concluded.
