MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) — Aleksandr Medved will always remain a role model for young athletes who want to reach Olympic heights, Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Vladimir Pertsov said during a funeral ceremony to pay last respects to the outstanding Belarusian wrestler at the Palace of Sports in Minsk on 4 September, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Medved was a great athlete and a kind-hearted man, who was known both in Belarus and all over the world. The whole life of Aleksandr Vasilyevich was devoted to sports. He always worked for the benefit of Belarus, helped to bring up new generations of athletes. “We can't believe we are saying our last goodbye to this outstanding athlete and great man. Aleksandr Medved will always be an example of courage, perseverance and dedication not only for wrestlers and all other athletes, but for all Belarusians," Vladimir Pertsov emphasized.
Three-time Olympic champion Aleksandr Medved passed away on 2 September at the age of 86.
