MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – The Church should steer clear of any actions that could threaten social harmony, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said as he met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 6 June, BelTA has learned.

“The Russian Orthodox Church, the Belarusian Exarchate are an important factor contributing to the unity and unification of people. People are united around high goals and values. The church does not pursue any political goals that would go against the interests of the people and the state. We have faced backlash from some people for sticking to this principle. The Church should not encourage any tendencies that can destroy unity in society. The Church should only strive to keep people together,” the patriarch said.
