MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – The West is trying to memory-hole the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War by disparaging the historical significance of the Victory, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
“Historical memory needs to be trained - these are the muscles of our conscience. Unless we work on it, the correct perception of the historical past will be lost. And the attempt to persuade us to find a common denominator with our enemies of the past suggests that there is a goal to belittle our Victory, to play down its role, logic, significance. And then history might be rewritten. Large-scale damage, tragedies that we experienced on our way to Victory will recede into the background. After that, the feat itself will be nullified,” said Aleksandr Tishchenko.
The expert noted that the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was achieved not only by the Red Army, but also by the entire Soviet Union. “And we are being told to stop raising this issue, to brush it aside: they say, everything has already passed, nothing will happen... It will, because history tends to repeat itself. Both the scale and the nature of this repetition depend on how well we have learned from the mistakes we made in the past,” he emphasized.
