"On Point"
MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – U.S. President Donald Trump views the European Union as an ideological enemy of the independent American civilization, philosopher Aleksandr Dugin said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Europe and America are, in a sense, two different civilizations. Historically, the New World and the Old World have had many fundamental differences. The British poet William Blake envisioned them as two entirely different spirits – the American and the European – in complete opposition to one another. These are two civilizations with entirely different orientations,” said Aleksandr Dugin.
The philosopher also drew attention to another perspective on U.S.-Europe relations – Atlanticism. According to this theory, the West is considered a collective entity. This is precisely why formations such as NATO emerged.
“Thus, the Atlantic Ocean can be seen either as a kind of ‘internal lake’ of the collective West or as a dividing line between two civilizations,” he emphasized.
According to the philosopher, Donald Trump leans precisely toward the first theory. Thus, the U.S. president views the European Union as an ideological enemy of the independent American civilization.
