Opinion: Global arms race has gained a deadly momentum

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – The global arms race is not only underway but has gained a deadly momentum, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
According to Aleksandr Tishchenko, Russia and the United States demonstrate cutting-edge weaponry. “The American side announced its multi-layered Golden Dome missile defense system even before the Russian Burevestnik,” he recalled. “I believe it was in 2017 or 2018 that Vladimir Putin first mentioned the Burevestnik, and there was even some skepticism around it back then.” He added that the Americans had also been developing the Golden Dome concept since that period.

The expert emphasized that American ambitions are increasingly focused on space. “Do you think Elon Musk and Starlink are just spreading communications there? No. We see how his Starlink systems are being used in Ukraine, and how they are starting to surveil and control the Earth’s surface. This is precisely why everyone will be pulled into that domain. It is not for nothing that all these thousands of launches are happening every year. An arms race is starting, and it has already reached a point where it looks deadly today,” he concluded.
