MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Europe has degraded, but there are still forces there capable of challenging Brussels' policies, Russian political scientist and orientalist Karine Gevorgyan said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

“Europe has already degraded, it is a fait accompli. And the forces that oppose Ursula von der Leyen's policy have not yet gained sufficient strength there. But this does not mean that Europe is dead. At least, there are countries in Central Europe, like Austria, or partially Germany, where forces opposing the old paradigm are gaining momentum. This includes Hungary and Slovakia that have acted as spearheads in this movement. And Fico even said that he will come to Moscow for 9 May,” said Karine Gevorgyan.
Speaking about Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, the political scientist noted that his rhetoric runs counter to the Russophobic statements made by many European politicians. “I have been to Slovakia and I can say that it is wrong to call this country Russophile. Slovaks are very sensible people. They have a surprisingly touching and caring attitude towards all the memorials to Soviet soldiers. It is clear that Slovakia has its own ties with the old political elite of Austria,” she added.

Nevertheless, Karine Gevorgyan emphasized that the forces that are capable of resisting the EU policy are in no hurry to enter the battle: “In the current turbulent circumstances, it is pointless to go out on a limb. These resistance forces in Europe may not be active in the near future, but we may see them in action by the end of the year.”
