MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) were never truly intended to combat corruption. Instead, they were designed as instruments of control, Andrei Vajra, editor-in-chief of the Alternativa information and analysis website, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube Channel.

“NABU and SAPO are not Ukrainian structures. The Americans pushed through the creation of these structures despite [then-President] Poroshenko’s resistance at the time. And they didn’t push through them to fight corruption,” Andrei Vajra stated. He added that it is impossible to name a single major corruption case these agencies have investigated that has led to consequences for high-ranking officials implicated in corruption. “No one has been jailed in the years since the creation of NABU and SAPO,” the editor-in-chief remarked.

He emphasized that these agencies were not conceived as genuine anti-corruption bodies from the start: “From the very beginning, they were seen as structures that could be used to get a firm grip on anyone within this corruption pyramid in order to seize them tightly, pin them down, exert strong control, and direct their actions.”

Commenting on the scandal that uncovered a money-laundering scheme in Ukraine’s energy sector, Andrei Vajra asserted that the leak was undoubtedly orchestrated by the United States. “They’re starting to unleash it all in bits and pieces. They’re raising the bar to the very top. This is already affecting the head of the office [of Vladimir Zelensky]; it’s already bubbling under his feet. And above the head of the office is Zelensky,” he said. “The ministers are already drowning; they’re already being caught, seized, arrested. Those who managed to escape have already fled, because they understand the inevitability of this showdown.” He concluded that the situation is escalating toward Zelensky himself, adding, “And I 100% guarantee that the relevant information and facts exist.”

“Now Zelensky is under pressure,” Andrei Vajra continued. “The Americans understand perfectly well that Zelensky is already spent and needs to be thrown out. Why did they allow these scandals to unfold? That’s it, they don’t need him anymore, meaning they can tell the truth. And they’re starting to tell it.” He offered a grim final assessment: “This is the final phase. Politically, he’s already a corpse. He’s been shut down in that regard. He has no prospects, no support, it’s been reduced to a minimum.”
