MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Nicaragua is interested in buying Belarusian medications, BelTA learned from Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo, advisor for investments, trade, and international cooperation to the Nicaragua president. The advisor met with First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov earlier on 13 December.
Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo said: “We’ve held a very important bilateral meeting. We’ve managed to discuss an entire spectrum of matters of bilateral cooperation, in particular, trade. Nicaragua will be able to become a platform for promoting Belarusian products onto markets of Central America countries. We’ve discussed how Nicaraguan products can be shipped to markets of Belarus and other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.”
Belarus’ participation and the use of Belarusian machines, vehicles, and equipment in the realization of infrastructure projects in Nicaragua were also discussed. Close attention was paid to a massive project, which envisages building a canal to link two oceans.
Apart from that, the meeting looked into possibilities for scientific and technical cooperation in such fields as agriculture, in particular, animal husbandry and artificial selection in crop farming. “We know that Belarus has accumulated vast experience and knowledge in these matters,” the Nicaragua president’s advisor noted.
The parties also discussed cooperation in science and education. The Nicaraguan side is interested in bolstering interaction with Belarusian universities.
The possibility of cooperation in pharmaceutics was also mentioned. Nicaragua is interested in interaction with the relevant Belarusian organizations, including for the sake of buying Belarusian medications to satisfy Nicaragua’s demand and for selling them on the markets of Central America countries.
The parties also discussed matters of cooperation in banking industry. “We are deeply grateful to Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, to the country’s government, and to the Development Bank for opening credit lines, which will allow implementing bilateral projects,” Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo added.
A large-scale project is now being implemented to deliver Belarusian road construction and maintenance machines and municipal vehicles. “The first batch has already been delivered to Managua. We are now working to complete the first global stage of vehicle delivery,” the Nicaragua president’s advisor noted.
Cultural interaction between the two countries is another topical matter. Representatives of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus visited Nicaragua in July 2024. Their performance was a great success. “Two Nicaraguan opera singers will arrive in Minsk today. They will take part in a gala concert of Belarus’ Bolshoi Theater. Next year we intend to continue our interaction. We invite Belarusian artists to visit Nicaragua,” Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo stressed.
The advancement of cooperation between mass media of Belarus and Nicaragua was also discussed. There are plans to work out the relevant mechanisms for it. The matter of ensuring information security and cyber security was also mentioned.
The parties agreed to advance interaction, including via the joint commission for trade and economic cooperation.
“We’ve arrived here with a feeling of deep gratitude to the Belarus president and the entire Belarusian nation. We would like to express our solidarity. We will continue supporting your country on all international platforms and working together to build a new multipolar world, a more fair and democratic one based on mutual respect and accommodation of interests of every country,” the Nicaragua president’s advisor concluded.
