MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – A number of new Mi-35SM transport and combat helicopters have arrived in Belarus as part of military technology cooperation with Russia, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.
According to the source, the Mi-35SM helicopter is a modernized version of the Mi-24 combat helicopter. The helicopter is capable of performing a broad range of missions. It can strike enemy personnel and materiel, evacuate the wounded, perform reconnaissance missions, and transport cargoes. The helicopter can operate in all seasons, all kinds of weather in daytime and at night.
Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Command of Belarus’ Armed Forces Sergei Frolov remarked that these helicopters would assume combat duties soon.
The helicopters had flown for over 1,000km. Belarusian pilots took care of it.
“The head of state has repeatedly stated that rearming the Belarusian army is one of the most important tasks. And we have to adequately respond to all the challenges and threats in today’s world. But an arms race is not what we are after. We have to wisely and carefully make rearmament plans and adequately respond to all the challenges and threats,” Sergei Frolov added.
