MOSCOW, 12 March (BelTA) - Ensuring the safe operation of nuclear energy facilities in the Union State of Belarus and Russia will be discussed at a meeting of the Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. It will take place in Moscow on 18 March, BelTA learned from the PA press service.
“Meeting participants will discuss issues of ensuring the safe operation of nuclear energy facilities in the Union State, as well as scientific and technical support and technical assistance for the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant,” the press service said.
Parliamentarians will also review the progress of implementing the strategy for scientific and technological development of the Union State until 2035. MPs will be presented with information on the cooperation between the ministries of Belarus and Russia in the design of facilities for radioactive waste. Special attention is planned to be given to issues of managing spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste: safe storage, processing, and decommissioning.
Representatives from the following organizations have been invited to participate in the event: the Energy Ministries of Belarus and Russia, the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus, the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute, the state corporation Rosatom, the Belarusian State Technological University, and Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
