MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Colonel (retired) Viktor Baranets gave his opinion on what factor could influence the territorial issue in the Ukraine conflict in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Many options for exchanging territories are under discussion. What does the Ukrainian side insist on? On freezing the current line of contact. We are totally against it. However, a new factor will influence the exchange of territories. For instance, contingents from France, Germany, the UK and even Poland arrive [in Ukraine] and become large garrisons. This is essentially a huge army that will strengthen the combat potential of the Ukrainian armed forces,” Viktor Baranets said.
According to the expert, if Western military contingents are deployed in Ukraine, they will intervene in the conflict sooner or later. “Who would believe that a German soldier would watch the hostilities with field glasses, drink coffee and do nothing? And this is an unpleasant factor for us because this is still NATO advancement towards our borders. This is a threat,” he emphasized.
Thus, Viktor Baranets concluded, Moscow will not accept any scenario that involves the deployment of Western troops on Ukrainian territory.
