MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – Following in Poland's footsteps, Lithuania has strengthened customs controls at the border with Belarus, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee.
“On 15 March, the Lithuanian customs service increased controls of trucks entering from the territory of Belarus. Poland took similar steps on 13 March. This move has increased the border crossing time,” the State Border Committee said.
The number of trucks that Lithuania handled accounted for 77% of its throughput capacity. The busiest checkpoint now is Salcininkai (Benyakoni).
The number of trucks that entered the territory of Poland from Belarus made up 44% of its throughput capacity. The biggest queues were reported at Kukuryki (Kozlovichi).
Latvia cleared 72% of what it was supposed to. As of 10am, most of the vehicles are en route to the Paternieki checkpoint (Grigorovshchina).
