MOSCOW, 9 June (BelTA) - The CIS is facing security challenges of a fundamentally new order, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev at the 19th CIS meeting of the heads of principal divisions of competent bodies responsible for combating terrorism and heads of national agencies responsible for countering extremism in Moscow on 9 June, BelTA has learned.
“Today we are facing challenges of a fundamentally new order: cyberterrorism and hybrid threats targeting critical infrastructure; ideological expansion and radicalization in the digital environment; the use of artificial intelligence and unmanned systems by destructive forces,” Sergei Lebedev said.
In his opinion, high-tech network terrorism can only be countered by creating an even more flexible and coordinated security system.
Sergei Lebedev noted that specific, tangible tasks face the CIS. These include deepening operational information exchange and bringing it to a real-time mode, unifying the legal framework in the field of combating cyber threats and the financing of terrorism, and conducting regular joint command-staff and practical exercises to drill the scenarios for protecting people and strategic facilities.
