Krutoi: Healthcare is a major priority in Belarus

KRICHEV, 4 October (BelTA) - The healthcare system is in focus in Belarus, Dmitry Krutoi, the head of the Belarus President Administration, the authorized representative of the head of state in Mogilev Oblast, said at a ceremony to open a new polyclinic in Krichev, BelTA has learned.

"In our country, a great deal of attention is paid to the healthcare sector. Over 20 years, life expectancy has increased by 5 years. In terms of the number of practicing doctors, mid-level medical personnel, and hospital beds, Belarus holds leading positions in Europe, surpassing Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, and other countries,” Dmitry Krutoi said.

He emphasized that significant funds have been invested in the healthcare sector of Mogilev Oblast specifically – over Br1 billion in the infrastructure. “This helps retain doctors, staff turnover is decreasing, and salaries are growing," Dmitry Krutoi noted. “We support young doctors who join hospitals and are taking measures to help the hospitals to retain staff.”

The next important element of state policy is rental housing. Dmitry Krutoi called for everyone to step up, including the chairman of the Krichev District Executive Committee. “Right now, we are compiling a list of in-demand professions and specialists who need better housing. Medical workers will be among them. Based on this, we will develop a housing program for the next five years,” he stated.

Rental apartment buildings for medical workers have already been commissioned in Bobruisk and Mogilev. The head of the President Administration pointed out that constructing such housing in large cities only is incorrect. It is also necessary to work with population centers like Krichev. After all, Krichev Central District Hospital has become the region's third inter-district medical center.

Dmitry Krutoi recalled that in his election program, Aleksandr Lukashenko outlined an important message. "Over these five years, we must polish the country and bring it to an exemplary state. Colossal attention is paid to quality infrastructure,” he stated. “The state program aimed at building a strong and healthy nation will be one of the main priorities next year, and significant resources will be allocated to it.”
The head of the President Administration emphasized that Belarusians closely monitor the work of the healthcare sector. In the structure of citizens' complaints to the President Administration, medicine and healthcare rank second, right after housing and utilities services. The main complaints involve: queues at polyclinics, difficulties in booking appointments with specialist doctors, and waiting lists for joint replacement or heart surgery. Dmitry Krutoi wished the staff of the new polyclinic in Krichev to solve these problems at their facility and become an example for others.
