Kochanova: Belarus, Nigeria maintain friendly relations

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Nigeria maintain good, friendly relations, Chair of the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of Belarus’ parliament, Natalya Kochanova said as she met with First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu in Minsk on 10 July, BelTA has learned.

“We are glad that you accepted the invitation to visit our country. You will take part in the opening ceremony of the Slavianski Bazaar festival that has been held on our land for many years and has united many nations. This year more than 5,000 people have applied to take part in the festival, including people from the African continent. We hope that in the coming years Nigeria will be able to join this wonderful cultural event,” said Natalya Kochanova. “I am sure that you will enjoy the jolly atmosphere of the festival, which is one of the hallmarks of our country,” the speaker remarked.

Belarus and Nigeria maintain friendly relations. “We are glad to have great relations between our countries and peoples,” the speaker emphasized. “Yet, there is still a lot of work to do. And we are ready to cooperate in all areas, including trade and economy. Belarus has strong industrial potential. We produce a lot of agricultural equipment. We are a highly industrialized country. We boast advanced technologies in various industries. Our food products have earned a great reputation almost all over the world. We are food secure and sell a lot of foodstuffs abroad.”

“Of course, cooperation in humanitarian matters, like education, culture, science, is also important for us. This year 336 Nigerian students study in our country. We are ready to continue to provide grants for the Nigerian youth to study at educational institutions of our country,” added Natalya Kochanova.
