MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) - The security situation in the country ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays remains calm and under control, Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus (KGB) Ivan Tertel told the media following a report to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 24 December, BelTA has learned.
The extended holiday weekend is approaching for many of Belarus’ working citizens. Ivan Tertel noted that in the run-up to such long breaks, it is traditional for the president to alert the security services to potential incidents and to point out that “various forces exist that have no interest in our country’s development”, their goal being to foment an emergency.
The KGB chairman’s report to the head of state included a deep, substantive analysis of potential developments. “The president has been briefed that the situation is under control. The KGB, in tight coordination with the Internal Affairs Ministry, the Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor’s Office, and other law enforcement agencies and emergency services, will serve on an enhanced schedule. We have everything under control. We are not complacent. We recognize specific threats that may arise,” said Ivan Tertel.

“I would like to note that, for now, the State Security Committee and all its departments across all operational lines do not have any alarming information indicating that something is about to happen,” the KGB head said.
