MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – A joint meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council, the Defense Ministers Council and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils was held in Astana on 28 November under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan. The event was attended by CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov and Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov, BelTA learned from the CSTO press service.
“The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the military-political situation in the collective security regions, reviewed cooperation and discussed prospects of the collective security system development. Special attention was paid to the preparations for the joint celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War,” the press service noted.
The participants of the meeting approved a number of documents submitted to the CSTO Collective Security Council, and took decisions that seek to further expand the allied relations, improve foreign policy coordination, as well as strengthen the CSTO collective forces, equip them with modern, advanced weapons, military and special equipment.
According to the press secretary of the CSTO Joint Staff Vladislav Shchegrikovich, in accordance with the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship, the participants of the meeting updated approaches to ensuring unimpeded (non-stop) transit of contingents and military aviation. “Amendments are being made to the agreement on the status of forces and means of the CSTO collective security system and to the CSTO cooperation agreement on transportation of military and other formations, their movable property, as well as military products. Particular attention is paid to the further development of the forces and means of the collective security system. The principles of preparation and use of the CSTO collective rapid response forces have been approved. Following the joint meeting, a number of other agreements were reached aimed at strengthening the collective security of the CSTO member states,” the press secretary added.
