International observers invited to monitor Belarus’ 2024 elections

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – In addition to the CIS election observation mission, Belarus’ Central Election Commission (CEC) invited representatives of the SCO, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Belarus-Russia Union State and individual experts, including from the EU countries, to monitor Belarus’ parliamentary and local elections, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko told journalists after meeting with Sergei Lebedev, CIS Secretary General and head of the CIS observation mission for Belarus’ elections on the single voting day, BelTA has learned.
 
“We have already accredited 58 international observers. Today the CIS mission has opened its headquarters that will be headed by CIS First Deputy Secretary General Leonid Vasilievich Anfimov,” said Igor Karpenko.
 
According to the chairman of the Central Election Commission, in addition to the CIS mission, invitations to monitor the elections were sent to representatives of the SCO, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Union State and individual experts, including from the European Union countries. “In line with the law, we will accredit everyone, issue appropriate certificates, and all observers monitoring the election campaign will be able to study all the information, visit polling stations, precinct and territorial commissions,” he assured.
