Historian makes scathing assessment of Western European politicians

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – Historian Yevgeny Spitsyn offered a scathing assessment of contemporary Western European policymaking during his latest appearance on the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

“Western European politicians have stooped so low that one sometimes gets the impression that the world is being run by madmen willing to gamble millions of lives for the mythical goal of destroying Russia. In fact, if real threats to Russia’s existence emerge, I have no doubt nuclear weapons will be used. Whether tactical or strategic, they will certainly be used – that’s absolutely certain,” Yevgeny Spitsyn said.

“Notice how they’re escalating the Kaliningrad situation. While previously it was just talk, now we see concrete actions – like Germany deploying a brigade to Lithuania. But they fail to grasp one simple thing: if they launch operations against Kaliningrad Oblast, we’ll immediately commence military action in the Baltics. The Baltics have no real defense capabilities. Soviet forces could occupy the region in mere days – I deliberately say ‘Soviet.’ And then what? The use of nuclear weapons. Do they even comprehend what might happen next?” the historian asked rhetorically.

Regarding Poland: “Polish armed forces primarily target Belarus. Belarusians understand this perfectly. Any Polish attempt to strike Belarusian territory would similarly risk at least tactical nuclear strikes on Poland. Who would defend Poland? The French? Who can guarantee French intervention?” Yevgeny Spitsyn emphasized, recalling the so-called “Phony War” events and the West’s history of empty promises to Poland. He noted Western powers frequently make commitments they fail to honor in reality.
