Gryguć reflects on Slavianski Bazaar, hopes for Poland’s return to Slavic family

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – The idea of uniting the entire Slavic community is very important and relevant today, Polish political scientist and publicist Tomasz Gryguć said in an interview with BelTA.

The Slavianski Bazaar festival is a very interesting initiative. President Lukashenko gave an excellent speech there. The Poles are also returning to their Slavic origins, recalling the common roots of the Western and Eastern Slavs. We in Poland are fully aware of the fact that linguistically and culturally we have more in common with our Belarusian brothers or Russians than with the Germans, French or Dutch. In terms of culture, religion or civilization, we have little in common with these modern Europeans,” Tomasz Gryguć said.

The publicist believes that there were probably visitors from Poland at the festival in Vitebsk. “The Slavic idea, the idea of the Slavic unity is gaining on more significance and relevance amidst the efforts to unite the entire Slavic community. I hope that one day this will come to pass, and Poland, the Poles will return to the Slavic family. Poland, just like Belarus, belongs to the region of Central-Eastern Europe,” Tomasz Gryguć remarked.

By the way, people living abroad could see concerts, performances and reports from the Slavianski Bazaar festival on YouTube. As for the local audience, the concerts of the festival were watched by over 1.3 million Belarusians on the Belarus 1 TV channel - that’s every fifth resident. And if we add views on the TV channels RTR-Belarus, Mir and Belarus 3,  the total viewership will be 1.8 million or every fourth resident.
