GOMEL, 7 January (BelTA) - Gomel Oblast is prepared to withstand the severe weather and respond to the predicted heavy snowfall, Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko told the media following his report to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 7 January, BelTA has learned.
The main topic of the report was the situation in the southeastern region in connection with heavy snowfall and an approaching cyclone. The governor reported on how work was organized to ensure the stable operation of infrastructure and the clearing of streets and major transport routes. He assured that the situation in the region was stable and all infrastructure was functioning normally.
According to forecasts, stronger winds and heavier snow are expected in the coming days, so work has been carried out to mobilize additional resources. “We currently have equipment available at industrial enterprises, as well as heavy machinery from agricultural organizations. Should heavy snow fall rapidly, all available resources will be deployed to manage the aftermath. Mini-exercises are planned for 8-9 January across several districts of Gomel Oblast. Equipment will be used not just from municipal services, but also from road enterprises and organizations prepared to provide their manpower and machinery for emergencies,” Ivan Krupko said outlining the plans.
“We understand that a drop in temperature is also expected, so all services are on full alert - energy workers, the Emergencies Ministry, additional resources, utility brigades (their number can be increased to 169 if necessary). Currently, boiler houses are being inspected, and work is underway in other areas. This is about the complete readiness of the entire utility complex to operate under difficult, low-temperature conditions. Gomel Oblast is prepared to withstand the severe weather,” Ivan Krupko emphasized.
The region has faced weather challenges many times before, which is why a fleet of mobile boiler houses and diesel generators has been established. “We have three mobile boiler houses. Another one, running on pellets, was added this year in Kalinkovichi District. They are mobile. If there are line ruptures or operational issues with boilers at stationary boiler houses, utility brigades are ready at any time to deploy these resources to address emergencies,” the governor said.

Diesel generators are essentially already installed and ready for operation at all utility enterprises, agro-industrial facilities, and social sector institutions. “These are reserve or backup power sources. If there are disruptions to the main supply, diesel generators are activated. A reserve stock of 35 diesel generators of various capacities has been set up. Such units are available to both energy workers and the Emergencies Ministry. This quantity is sufficient to handle any situation that may arise,” the governor added.
The president was also briefed on the implementation of instructions following last year’s meeting in Vitebsk, which discussed the operations of agro-industrial organizations. To this end, labor resources from industrial enterprises are used to assist agricultural organizations.
