MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – The Polish authorities hope the thaw between Minsk and Washington is only temporary, the Polish politician, political analyst Mateusz Piskorski said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
Mateusz Piskorski explained that Warsaw does not take the resumed Minsk-Washington relations seriously, considering this Belarus-USA rapprochement to be temporary, just as before.
“I think the Polish leadership still interprets the current USA-Belarus developments as merely an attempt of a temporary rapprochement and a short-term normalization. They believe things will play out just as they did before. You remember how on multiple occasions the U.S. side stated that attempts should be made to normalize relations with Belarus, and then immediately took a step back. Only to then engage in all sorts of efforts to destabilize your country’s internal affairs. Many are counting on this. Some are already hoping that this is all temporary and that Trump will leave. There is no guarantee that Trump’s successor will be JD Vance [U.S. vice president]. Should JD Vance not succeed him, the Democrats, the globalists, let us say, would return to power in Washington. And then everything will return to its previous state, with Poland serving as a subcontractor for organizing color revolutions in the post-Soviet space, targeting even its neighbor, Belarus,” the political analyst noted.
It is for this reason, Mateusz Piskorski believes, that the Polish government is not paying due attention to this issue. “The Polish political elite fails to truly comprehend that we might be witnessing a fundamental shift in the very philosophy of international relations, including U.S. approach. Under Trump and his influential faction of supporters within the administration, the USA may have come to terms with the emergence of a multipolar world. In this multipolar world, Belarus represents a crucial and significant factor for any player seeking to forge relationships with both Europe and Russia. For U.S. experts and officials, Belarus is, in essence, the key to Russia,” the expert pointed out. In his opinion, Washington calculates that good relations with Belarus and the mediation of the Belarusian president are essential to effectively engage with other post-Soviet leaders in the current climate.
