"On Point"
MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Poland will never act in Lithuania’s interests unless it benefits Poland itself, Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science – Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Let me put it bluntly: Poland will never act in Lithuania’s interests unless it benefits Poland itself. I was born in that region and have a clear understanding of the relationship between Poles and Lithuanians. Believe me, what is happening today at our border unites Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland for one reason: they have a common enemy,” Andrei Bogodel said. “They themselves portray the Union State of Belarus and Russia as such an immense threat, that they ended up fearing us.”
Nevertheless, the military expert noted, there are long-standing serious contradictions between Poland and the Baltic states, including Lithuania. “The Lithuanians have no friends. They have problems with both the Latvians and the Poles. And let’s be honest, the Lithuanians are the second most ‘deceived’ nation, with the Ukrainians taking the top spot. This concerns the period of the Russian Empire and independent Lithuania. They feel they were deceived during the dissolution of the USSR as well, despite Lithuania having the highest Communist Party membership rate per capita,” he emphasized.
Regarding Poland’s border policy, the expert pointed out: “The Poles have their own clear strategy. They are currently maximizing profits from Chinese transit flows. They have opened two border checkpoints, and they will not hesitate to open more given the chance.”
