MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Belarus is ready for a constructive dialogue with the United States, provided it takes the interests of both sides into account, economic expert, head of the Aksios educational center of Giprosvyaz Yuliya Abukhovich said in a new episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point].
“Belarus has very clearly stated its position. Russia is our strategic partner first and foremost, and we will not change our priorities. But if the Americans want a deal, let them come. Belarus is ready to re-engage, but it will not initiate it,” stated Yuliya Abukhovich.
The expert recalled that Minsk did not initiate the deterioration of relations with Washington or Brussels, noting that it was the West that imposed sanctions on Belarus and attempted to organize a color revolution. “Admit this and take the first step. Belarus is ready for constructive dialogue,” she said, adding: “We are ready for a deal, but it must take Belarus’ interests into account.”
This statement follows earlier remarks by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, who announced his readiness to conclude a deal with the United States at a meeting on international affairs and Belarusian-American relations, while also stressing that any agreement must account for Belarus’ interests.
“We are waiting for constructive steps with proposals that are truly negotiable. Let’s make a big deal, but this big deal must be fair, taking into account the interests of Belarus and its strategic partners, naturally, including the United States of America,” concluded Yuliya Abukhovich.
