Expert: Nowhere in the world do I feel as comfortable as in Belarus

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) - Russian historian and director of the Institute for Systemic and Strategic Analysis Andrei Fursov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel that there is no country in the world where he feels as comfortable as in Belarus.
Andrei Fursov admitted that he doesn't visit Minsk often, but holds a great affection for Belarus. “There isn't a country in the world where I feel as comfortable as I do in Belarus,” he emphasized.

“It was clear to intelligent people as far back as the mid-1970s that Belarus would remain with Russia,” Andrei Fursov said.

In this context, he referenced the views of the Soviet economist and political scientist Yakov Pevzner, who believed that if market forces and democracy were ever to triumph in the Soviet Union, it would lead to the collapse of the country and the gangsterization of all spheres of social life. In Yakov Pevzner's opinion, the republics would go their separate ways, with only Belarus remaining together with Russia.

“So, this man understood very clearly that Belarus, unlike the other republics - and I would add the eastern part of Ukraine - and the Russian Federation constitute a kind of whole. Therefore, I am very optimistic about the further course of events, although, of course, the personal factor is very important here, the elites are important. Figuratively speaking, as long as there is [Belarusian President] Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko], everything is fine. I believe that one of the most important things for the further development of the Union State is the continuity of power both in Belarus and in the Russian Federation,” the historian said.
