MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – The Union State of Belarus and Russia could become an example for the CIS of how to constructively resolve emerging problems and contradictions, economic expert, head of the Aksios educational center of Giprosvyaz Yuliya Abukhovich said in a new episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point].
Speaking about the further development of cooperation among the CIS member states, the expert noted that contradictions sometimes arise between them on various issues. These contradictions usually concern the economy. Meanwhile, the economy is the most important component of cooperation.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko also pointed this out in his speech at the CIS summit in Dushanbe. The head of state urged the CIS countries to see each other primarily as partners and to expand interaction as much as possible, leaving no topics off the table.
“The whole discussion on the CIS activities revolved around the fact that we cannot reach the level of a true partnership. If we cannot agree within this association, if we are constantly looking for reasons to pick quarrels, what kind of cooperation can we talk about? It turns out that we spend time finding out who is right and who is wrong. Therefore, the main task, and the president spoke about this, is to build constructive partnerships,” Yuliya Abukhovich believes.
In her opinion, the economy is the essential base for securing technological sovereignty and building up high-tech ties, which is especially relevant today.
“The president’s key message has been unchanged for many years. At all major events and forums, he begins by saying that it is time to start working. Quarreling and arguing in our turbulent world, when we already have enough problems, is absolutely counterproductive. If advance and ensure this progress is constructive and steady, each nation will prosper and succeed. In that case, sanctions and any other form of pressure will be significantly diminished,” Yuliya Abukhovich said.
She noted the CIS should look to the Union State as a model for its ability to tackle various issues constructively. “We are strategic partners, we are developing and building our economy together. This is a worthy example for the CIS countries,” the expert said.
