MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) - Former Ukrainian Prime Minister (2010-2014) Nikolai Azarov criticized the short-sightedness of EU leaders in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The former Ukrainian prime minister shared his observations of the actions and statements of modern politicians and state leaders at various meetings and summits. “One can only state with great regret that the political figures of that era, such as de Gaulle, were truly significant statesmen. Now it's not even clear who one could rely on in an extremely complex and dangerous situation,” he noted, describing the trend.

The expert also pointed to the short-sightedness of modern figures: “So-called leaders with unpredictable decisions are coming to power. They cannot think even two or three steps ahead and make decisions based on the present day. But one must think not only about what is happening today, but also about what will happen tomorrow, in a year, or in 5-10 years.”

Nikolai Azarov cited the “green adventure” as a prime example. “It was playing out before my eyes over 20 years, based on the real commercial and political interests of bringing resource-rich countries – oil-producing and gas-producing - to heel,” he said.

“No one resisted the green agenda, which has hit Germany and many European countries; on the contrary, they actively participated in it. Ursula von der Leyen has recently stated that it is necessary to restart nuclear power plants because it is beneficial. Yet, in their time, she herself, the country's government, [Angela] Merkel, pushed for the closure of nuclear stations. And they were closed. Was it really impossible to foresee - a year, two, ten years ahead - that this would lead to a catastrophe? It really did lead to a catastrophe,” Nikolai Azarov commented.

According to him, there are many other examples where so-called leaders in the EU made decisions against national interests for the sake of transnational corporations and companies, and deep states.
