MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) - The attack on Iran was a colossal mistake by the USA and Israel, Editor-in-Chief of the Words and Meanings almanac Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro (France) said in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V teme [On Point].
According to Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro, French society has differing assessments of the events in the Middle East. Initially, some citizens held negative views towards Iran, but now many French people consider the attack on Iran to be unjustified. Polls show that at least half of the respondents think this way, and the number of such people is growing.
In other words, the expert explained, people are beginning to doubt that the actions by the United States and Israel were truly justified by some colossal threat emanating from Iran.
“The absolutely stunned viewer is already forgetting where it started and who did what to whom. I think this knot can no longer be untangled. Questions are already arising about who provoked whom against whom. I personally get the impression that absolutely everyone was set up there. They were set up very cunningly and cleverly. It’s not that Israel is manipulating Washington or Washington is manipulating Israel, or who is following whose lead. But the fact that this was a colossal mistake was clear from the very beginning. Analysts agreed on that,” Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro said. “The official press started this campaign with a completely clear position justifying the American-Israeli aggression against Iran. Now that position has shifted somewhat. They say that we underestimated this regime, that we were very poorly informed about what is actually happening inside Iran.”
She noted that representatives of the Iranian opposition based in Europe greeted the first U.S .attacks on Iran with great enthusiasm. “The first 12 days of bombing and President Trump's calls to 'Come out on the streets quickly, we've bombed your prisons, go ahead with your revolution!' were so monstrously stupid and, I would say, simply indecent in the current situation, that many analysts and politicians who initially supported regime change suddenly began to come to their senses and realize that they had been mistaken,” the expert stated.
Elena Kondratieva-Salgueiro emphasized that any external invasion of any country is illegitimate and has never led humanity to anything good.
“What all the leading French television channels had to admit by the 13th day of the war was that the ayatollahs' regime was clearly underestimated, and their military capabilities as well. And no one could accurately calculate all the consequences of this indiscriminate shooting in the Middle East,” she remarked. “In other words, it's very difficult to make sense of all this now. It's practically impossible to stop it all. And all the previous moments should have been analyzed after all (both with Gaddafi and with Syria). It's an endless farce, but one that has long since turned into a tragedy.”
According to the expert, the most correct way out of the current situation in the Middle East now is to stop the armed aggression and provide security guarantees to all countries drawn into this conflict.
