Expert comments on fake news about Zapad 2025 exercise

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) - The fake news and disinformation surrounding the Belarusian-Russian army exercise Zapad 2025 are a pre-prepared deception on a planetary scale, Nikolai Buzin, Member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Nikolai Buzin pointed out that long before the start of Zapad 2025, the exercise began to be overgrown with various fakes and disinformation. At the same time, the exercise was open, and foreign observers were invited to it.

“All representatives of the military attachés, all representatives of other states who were on our territory, clearly stated that we fully accomplished everything that was declared. This is the repulsion of aggression, the restoration of territorial integrity along our own border. We did not consider (as was shouted from all corners) the issue of breaking through the Suwalki Gap. This did not happen,” the MP said.

He emphasized that everything stated by Belarus and Russia corresponded to reality. “Everything that they are trying to counter us with is fakes, it is a pre-prepared deception on a planetary scale,” Nikolai Buzin said.

The MP cited statements that Belarus and Russia allegedly planned to use force groupings to attack Europe as an example of such fakes. Ukraine also escalated the situation by also alleging some kind of aggression. All of this was accompanied by statements from European Union officials that the Union State could not be trusted. “These were completely baseless statements,” Nikolai Buzin said.

Moreover, he added, a decision was made to move the exercise maneuvers away from Belarus' borders deeper into the country, as well as to invite all interested parties to observe the event. “Tell me, when, in what times, has there been such openness in the military sector? Never!” the MP concluded.
