"On Point"
MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – In a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube Channel, Andrei Vajra, editor-in-chief of the Alternativa information and analysis website, assessed the effectiveness of the trilateral negotiations on Ukraine involving Moscow, Kiev, and Washington.
“The negotiation process has indeed been launched – that’s a fact. But I have a counter-question: what results has this negotiation process, launched quite some time ago, produced? People are traveling somewhere, meeting somewhere, talking about something – and what do we have to show for it?” Andrei Vajra posed the logical question.
The expert noted that the USA has held talks with Russia, with Ukraine, and with the European Union, but this has not led to any concrete results. “Zelensky comes out and says that on a number of fundamental issues, without which it’s impossible to resolve the problem, his positions remain unchanged. He will do what he did before. The question arises, what then was the point of all these negotiations?” Andrei Vajra stated.
Thus, he believes, despite the polished image and loud statements, they have failed to resolve the key issues of the Ukrainian conflict. “What is the result of everything Donald Trump is doing? I don’t see anything yet. How long have these negotiations been going on, in various formats and various places? The Americans are getting great PR from these negotiations, Donald Trump is making grand statements, but there is no result,” the expert emphasized.
Furthermore, Andrei Vajra, Moscow’s position is not being taken into account in the negotiations, and Europe is still inclined towards escalating the Ukrainian conflict.
As BelTA previously reported, the first round of negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, with representatives from Moscow, Kiev, and Washington, took place on 23-24 January, and the second one on 4 and 5 February. The talks were held in Abu Dhabi. A third round took place in Geneva on 17 February.
