MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – The U.S. attack on Venezuela pursued several goals, including striking a blow against BRICS and a desire to “revive” the Monroe Doctrine, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The U.S. attack on Venezuela is primarily a message to Latin America about who is in charge. The Monroe Doctrine is coming back to life, and what happened to Venezuela and Maduro shows that the USA will not compromise on anything,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said.
The expert noted that another goal was to strike at BRICS, an organization that is a manifestation of a multipolar world. “BRICS without Latin America looks less significant. And this, as it seems to me, was also an objective of the operation,” he added.
Furthermore, Aleksandr Tishchenko believes such attacks contradict any model of the world community. “International law has been utterly disregarded. The ‘America First’ approach is dragging the world back to some kind of Middle Ages. It turns out that today one single country decides everything: who should be the leader, to whom resources belong, how others should live and develop,” the expert emphasized.
The expert added that such a strategy cannot be acceptable to major global players like China and Russia: “After all, they are oriented towards equal conditions for everyone. And the USA is constructing a global framework for exploitation, aiming to impose its will by sheer power. This doctrine of ‘might makes right’ raises an alarming question for many: what’s to stop America from turning its coercive power against another target tomorrow?”
