MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Reforming the European Union is impossible; it is doomed in any case, Editor-in-Chief of the Words and Meanings almanac Elena Kondratieva-Salguero (France) said in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project “V teme” [On Point].
The expert noted that the European Union as a political system was not created overnight. Its structure was carefully conceived and implemented over decades. “This Titanic can stay afloat for a long time yet,” Elena Kondratieva-Salguero said metaphorically.

For the very same reason, however, reforming the EU is also unfeasible. Even countries with strong nationalist movements and parties are unable to fundamentally change the situation from within if they remain members of the EU.

“The European Union is indeed undergoing very serious transformations now, but they can only happen rapidly in one scenario: open conflict, meaning civil war, which is predicted not by one but by dozens of analysts,” stated the editor-in-chief. “Reforming this organization is impossible. Every professional lawyer or journalist specializing in its legal framework knows this. It can only, unfortunately, be destroyed. I am not calling for the destruction of Europe. But the European Union is doomed in any case.”
