MOSCOW, 20 October (BelTA) - The methods that Poland is using to clear cargo crossing the border with Belarus are archaic, Ruslan Davydov, Member of the Board (Minister) for Customs Cooperation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, said at a press conference in Moscow, BelTA has learned.
"Unfortunately, Poland has switched over to 100% physical inspection of all trucks entering from Belarus into Poland. This is terrible archaism: in the Russian Federation, 100% physical inspection of goods was applied only in the early 1990s. But there were no digital technologies back then,” Ruslan Davydov noted.
"The World Customs Organization, the Kyoto Convention, and the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement all advocate for the use of breakthrough technologies instead of physical control measures. Yet, the Poles are applying physical control in respect of all trucks. They are absolutely wrong and are not complying with the conventions they themselves have signed,” the EEC minister said.
