"On Point"
MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) - Economic imperatives are driving the USA to seek normalized relations with Russia, military expert and political analyst Yakov Kedmi said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The Anchorage summit highlighted shared Russian-U.S. interests - Arctic mineral resources and the Northern Sea Route,” Yakov Kedmi said. “I have already said that geographically, this shipping lane benefits US West Coast ports like Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco nearly as much as China's Shanghai.”
According to Yakov Kedmi, the importance of the Arctic for the USA is currently underestimated. “Few people understand and few talk about this because everyone is chasing sensational headlines. But by 2030, global demand for energy resources will increase sharply. There will be a shortage of electricity. Digital currencies, artificial intelligence - all of this requires a tremendous amount of energy. And where will it come from? Some of the world's largest potential reserves are in the Arctic Ocean. The USA is interested in this: they want to work with Russia to profit from electricity generation and energy resource extraction, while securing the necessary resources for their country,” he explained.
The expert emphasized that Washington has very little time. “The USA has five years, because they have set a goal to catch up with and prevent China from surpassing them in artificial intelligence during this period. Not everyone fully grasps the strategic importance of AI,” Yakov Kedmi said.
He pointed out that the future of weaponry is directly tied to technological advancement. “The USA is just beginning to deploy hypersonic weapons. But they can only be controlled using artificial intelligence. With flight times of 5-7 minutes, the human brain simply can't make decisions fast enough. All weapon systems are transitioning to networked operations - land, sea, and air-based. This requires solving dozens or hundreds of tasks simultaneously in dynamic conditions, which is only possible with AI. And all this requires energy,” the political analyst said.
Yakov Kedmi emphasized that while U.S. investments in artificial intelligence already amount to trillions of U.S. dollars, this won't be enough. “The USA aims to invest $1 trillion in AI development by 2030. But as usual with such projections, this will prove insufficient. More will be needed. Money means economy. The printing press can't produce that much. So what does the economy demand? Peace,” Yakov Kedmi concluded.
