MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) - Direct air service is an important link between Belarus and China, primarily for the development of mutual tourism, Belarus’ First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich told BelTA.
Until recently only one direct flight of the Chinese airline Air China has operated between Minsk and Beijing since May 2015.
“On 16 December 2024, our diplomats in China welcomed the first flight of the Belarusian airline Belavia to the city of Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. Two weeks later, a new flight of Air China was launched to connect China’s Xi'an and Minsk,” the Belarusian first deputy minister of foreign affairs said.
In his opinion, continuous development of cooperation in aviation lays an excellent foundation for facilitating business contacts, intensifying cultural and tourist exchanges. Therefore, special attention is paid to the issues of opening new regular flights to China and expanding the geography of flights.
According to Sergei Lukashevich, Belarus regularly presents its cultural and tourist potential at the largest international and regional thematic exhibitions in China. By the way, Belarus is included in the list of recommended tourist destinations for Chinese travelers.
Press conferences, briefings, and round tables are regularly held to boost tourism ties. For example, in late August 2024, a study tour for representatives of Chinese tourism companies and regional mass media was organized by the National Agency for Tourism with the support of the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry and the assistance of Belarus' diplomatic missions in China.
