Customs Committee: Traffic on Belarus-Lithuania border still halted, lines piling up

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) - Traffic on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border has still not been restored, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Customs Committee.

“Nine hours after traffic across the Belarusian-Lithuanian border was once again opened, the Lithuanian authorities decided to close the checkpoints. Traffic was halted at 23:30 on 26 October and has not yet been restored. This time, no information has been provided about when the checkpoints will reopen,” the State Customs Committee stated.

Lithuanian sources report that the border with Belarus will remain closed until a meeting of the Lithuanian national security commission, which is scheduled for today.

“Before the fourth border closure by Lithuania, only 110 trucks managed to cross into the adjacent side from the Kamenny Log and Benyakoni checkpoints. Currently, almost 1,600 cargo vehicles are registered in the electronic queue waiting to exit into Lithuania. The number of passenger cars awaiting exit is also growing - there are already about 420 of them. Two days ago, this figure stood at 130 cars,” the State Customs Committee said.

Customs officials continue to monitor the situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.
